Reflecting on ASET 2023

Last week was the 2023 Annual ASET Conference. We were fortunate enough to have 4 team members attending, myself, Barbara Shields, Cara Tumminello and Danny Fletcher.

Giving Thanks to the Team & ASET Family

This year is a busy one for Next Gen Neuro and just a few of us were able to slip away to attend. Thursday morning, I found myself pondering how I was possibly going to complete a large booth setup just a few hours away from the exhibit hall opening, it didn’t take long for members of our extended ASET family to offer a helping hand!  Thanks so much to John Crawford from Zeto for pitching in to set up our large display banner! (Don’t tell Amanda, I told her I did it all by myself😂!) And before I knew it, Pat Trudeau from Neurovative was setting up tables and putting out flyers! And then the booth was ready, and people started flowing in as the exhibit hall opened.  I soon realized that I wasn’t keeping up with questions from folks and once again, just in time one of my teammates, Danny showed up and volunteered to help throughout the break with exhibitors, and when the afternoon break rolled around Barb traded places with Danny to provide help again!  The next day, Cara did a wonderful job recruiting potential work colleagues as well😊. And then before I knew it, we were breaking down our booths after a wonderful event.  And boy did I have a lot to break down and pack up😅!  This time it was Magdalena Warzecha from Neurotech to the rescue!  Many, many thanks to each of you for making light the work and brightening each day with your kind help!

This is one of the most wonderful things that ASET has given me through the years—a network of wonderful people-friends, teammates, and colleagues who are always happy to pitch in, support, collaborate, and share joys, sorrows, and accomplishments with through all the years.

Congratulations!

I’d like to congratulate Danny Fletcher, who attended his first ASET conference and gave an excellent presentation covering QEEG and Vasospasm. His excitement to engage with colleagues to drive the field forward is exactly what these conferences are all about. We are excited to see him at future events!

With Much Gratitude. What I Appreciated Most about this ASET Conference was a Very Special Topic

After taking time to reflect on the conference, what I appreciated most about the ASET conference was the recurring theme of transparency in personal struggles woven into talks addressing the importance of mental health and wellness. These brave individuals shared their stories to help us hear this message much more clearly.

The message is that we all need to take an active role in identifying and assisting colleagues who may be struggling. We and our employers need to find proactive ways to support these individuals, no matter the cause of their challenges. Additionally, it is especially important for us to identify processes, communications, and other ways in which we and our employers may actively be contributing to these challenges. Only then can we all act to support our colleagues and ourselves, through targeted changes and improvements.

I am very grateful to ASET for embracing this conversation, and to each of you who shared your journeys with us.

We are excited to continue learning together, exploring important ideas, and driving forward the next generation of neurodiagnostic. See you all next year!
